Spring 2007
Over the last few weeks I did an exhaust mod I read about on X, installed lifter wedges, and installed graphics. The 650 is almost done...
My workbench has a stockpile of parts I've collected over the winter, but the following is what I've put on the ski so far this year...
The picture on the left is what the stock pump cone looks like. The pic to the right of it is the Wet Wolf cone. A shorter thrust cone gives the ski more bottom-end acceleration. I also bored out the intake manifold and added a 38mm Keihin carb. The stock flame arrestor was swapped with a K&N filter. I also removed the stock oil-pump and switched to premix.
3-19 Today I installed a new switch which includes a tether switch and bilge pump switch.
Fall 2006
In September of 2006 I purchased an 89 650sx off Ebay for $450. I sold the trailer the next day, so the jetski alone was only $200. I later purchased an 88 650sx parts ski for $125. Below are pictures of my low-buck build up of a 650sx.

The stock handlebars are extremely narrow and are at a 90 degree angle. They also came with a thumb throttle. I installed the stock bars off my roundnose SJ and traded my thumb throttle to a friend who had a finger throttle off a 550sx I sold him a few years ago. The grips were $5.00 at wal-mart.

The Pump on the 89 was in great condition, but came with a stock aluminum impeller. The 88 pump was pretty ratty, but came with a skat trak 8-16 stainless steel impeller in exc condition.
Below are pics of both impellers and the pump after I cleaned it up.
The 89 650sx turned over a little slow, even with a fully charged battery. I removed the starter and cleaned up the armature and brushes with steel wool. It made a huge difference! Note: I used toothpicks to keep the brushes in place during re-assembly.
The 89 650sx came with a Mariner Ride Plate and stock intake grate. The 88 parts ski came with an R&D toploader scoop grate and Westcoast ride plate. I decided to install the Mariner ride plate because its shorter and has fins. The toploader was obviously installed.
I removed the head off the 89 650sx and had Bill Bunes out of Anoka Mn mill the head .020" and recut the squish. Below are pics of the finished product. Hope this bumps compression up a bit, it was at 145psi
